Bowling Green Improves to 2-0 in MAC Play for the Third Straight Season
Bowling Green, Ohio – Senior Avery Hobson recorded a season-high 19 kills on 39 attempts to hit at a .357-clip to pace Bowling Green to a 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-17) sweep of Miami in Mid-American Conference volleyball action on Friday evening inside the Stroh Center.
Sophomore Anastasija Bozic added 13 kills for a Falcons offense that racked up 43 kills throughout the match. Senior Amanada Otten dished out a match-best 29 assists while teammate Sydnie Hernandez was credited with a team-high 16 digs. Sophomore Cecily Waynar led the Falcons with seven block assists as BGSU bested Miami in that category by a 18-16 margin.
Molly Creech registered 10 kills to lead the RedHawks offense that was held to a .034 attack percentage throughout the contest. Madison Brown and Holland Van Deusen were credited with 10 helpers a piece.
The Falcons opened the match by taking six of the first seven points, forcing Miami to call a timeout. After the RedHawks pieced together five straight scores out of the break, Bowling Green was able to create breathing room with a 4-0 stretch. With the Falcons in the drivers seat at 23-20, Avery Hobson cashed in back-to-back kills to put BGSU up after one period of play.
Bowling Green jumped out to a hot start once again, claiming four of the first five points. However, Miami battled back with four consecutive points to take an early 5-4 lead. Bowling Green forced Miami into four straight attack errors to regain the lead and eventually built it to a 17-11 advantage. Forcing set point at 24-16, Bozic knocked home a kill off a sweet dish from sophomore Molly Beatty to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
In the third frame, BG dominated early once more to earn a 7-1 lead. Miami creeped closer but the Falcons fended off any chance of a comeback when Avery Hobson finished off her 22nd kill of the evening to close out the match with a 25-17 set victory.
