BGSU Begins 2026 Season with Mel Brodt Invitational

Bowling Green cross country opens the 2026 season at home at the Mel Brodt Collegiate Open this Friday, Sept. 4. The women's 5K starts at 10 a.m. at the Mel Brodt Cross Country Course, followed by the men's 5K at 10:30 a.m.
The Mel Brodt Collegiate Invite will be a dual meet against Ohio, a unit that finished 8th regionally at last year's Great Lakes Regional and was runner-up at the MAC Championship.
The Falcons are coming off their best NCAA Great Lakes Regional finish since 1998, a sixth-place result that capped a 2025 season that included a third-place finish at the MAC Championship. That was BGSU's lowest point total at the conference meet since 1998.
Juniors Lexi Panning and Rachael Hoover lead this year's group. Panning earned second-team All-MAC honors last fall after placing 13th at the conference meet in 21:08.8 and was one of three Falcons to earn All-MAC recognition. Hoover added to BGSU's scoring in 23rd (21:28.8) and ran at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional. Sophomore Marissa Boone, who debuted at last year's Mel Brodt Open, also scored for BGSU at the MAC meet.
Seniors Nora Ritting, Madison Foster and Clare Valenza, junior Amelia Barilla and redshirt freshman Anna Buddelmeyer round out the returning group. Ritting placed 79th at last year's MAC meet, and Barilla 97th.
The newcomers joining the roster this fall are Maggie Foust, a transfer from Northern Kentucky, along with freshmen Leah Corby, Lily Good, Talya Schreiber, and Morgan Weichman.
Bowling Green will return Oct. 16 to the Mel Brodt Cross Country Course for the Falcon Invitational to conclude home meets this season.
