2012-13 (Junior): Played in 16 games for the Orange and Brown…recorded three assists…finished the season with four blocked shots and an even on-ice rating…recorded his first point of the season with an assist against Western Michigan (11/10/12), was a +1 in the contest...recorded an assist against Michigan State on 2/8/13...recorded an assist against Ferris State on 2/16/13.
2011-12 (sophomore): Played in 38 games for the Orange and Brown… blocked 10 shots and committed just four penalties all year for eight PIMs…collected his first point if the season with an assist against Alabama-Huntsville in a 3-0 win, finishing the game with a plus -1 on-ice rating…finished plus -1 in the Falcons shootout win over Ohio State…earned his second assist of the season in a 2-1 over Western Michigan, finishing the game plus -1…scored his first goal of the season in the Falcons’ 4-3 win over Michigan at home, finishing the game plus -1…assisted on Ryan Carpenter’s game-winning overtime goal against Ferris State in the first game of their CCHA Playoff series.
2010-2011 (freshman): Played in 40 games…quickly contributed to the offense scoring his first career goal in his second game against Michigan (Oct. 9)…one of the Falcons leading contributors on the power play scoring four power-play goals…finished his freshman season with nine points (5g, 4a)…committed seven penalties for 14 minutes…blocked 15 shots…finished with an even on-ice rating for the year.
Prior to BGSU: Spent his last two seasons at the junior level with the Newmarket Hurricanes (OJHL/CCHL)…in his rookie season with the team he led the team in both goals (28), assists (34) and points (62) through 53 games…in 2009-10 he lead his team in all three categories for a second consecutive season with a line of 29-30--59 line for the year…finished the year with a (+19) on-ice rating…in two years of postseason experience he has scored 21 goals, 28 assists (49 points) and possesses a (+11) on-ice rating in 34 games…in 2010 was named the regular season MVP and the Newmarket Coach’s Award…named CCHL Player of the Month for September 2009…named Stratford Rookie of the Year and regular season MVP in 2008.
Personal: Full name - Chad Alexander Sumsion…is the son of Doug and Bonnie Sumsion…has a brother, Brock (19)…father played basketball at the University of Guelph…played four years of varsity rugby and was a two-time captain…went a combined 27-1 over that time, winning the Thames Valley Rugby Championship three consecutive years while not losing a contest...was named Male Athlete of the Year twice at Huron Park Secondary School…majoring in business.
