Outside Competition
Sports other than Basketball
A BGSU student-athlete, in a sport other than basketball, may not participate during the academic year as a member of an outside team in any non-collegiate, amateur competition. The penalty for this violation is loss of eligibility for the remainder of that year and for the next academic year.
A BGSU student-athlete is allowed to participate as an individual in outside competition during the academic year, as long as he or she represents only him or herself and is not representing any team or club or receiving expenses or compensation from any team or club.
Basketball
A student-athlete who participates in any organized basketball competition during the academic year except while representing BGSU in intercollegiate competition becomes ineligible for any further intercollegiate competition in basketball.
Outside basketball competition, including competition involving teams with fewer than five players, shall be considered "organized" if any one of the following conditions exists:
* Teams are regularly formed or team rosters are predetermined;
* Competition is schedule and publicized in advance;
* Official score is kept;
* Individual or team standings are maintained;
* Official timer or game officials are used;
* Team uniforms are used;
* Admission is charged;
* A team is privately or commercially sponsored;
* Competition is either directly or indirectly sponsored, promoted, or administered by an individual, an organization, or any other agency;
* A student-athlete may participate on an outside team during the summer only with prior approval from the Compliance Office.
