JULY 2025 - Graham-Blincoe named to Coaching Staff at WKU
In the new staff's first season at BGSU, Chmiel, Graham-Blincoe and Company guided the Falcons to a winning record and a postseason tournament berth despite a veritable plethora of injuries.
After seeing the departure of four starters from the previous year's team, the Falcons were picked to finish fourth in the Mid-American Conference in 2023-24. Despite losing an estimated 126 player-games to injury, BGSU finished in a tie for fourth in the final league standings and advanced to the WNIT.
Four Falcons earned conference honors, including a pair of newcomers that joined the program shortly after the new staff arrived at BGSU. Morgan Sharps and Amy Velasco each were named to the All-MAC Second Team, while first-year Falcon Erika Porter earned All-MAC Third-Team honors and Paige Kohler was chosen to the MAC's All-Freshman Team.
Porter shattered the BGSU single-season records for field-goal percentage, both overall and in MAC games. She set a new MAC record by shooting 66.3% from the floor on the season. In league games only, her 68.2% success rate placed her second in MAC history.
Porter also finished second in the nation in field-goal percentage in '23-24.
Sharps broke the school career record for three-point field goals made per game (2.56), and hit 3.11 triples per contest in 2023-24, the second-highest single-season average in BGSU history. Despite missing the first four games of the season due to injury, Sharps led all MAC players in total three-pointers made on the season.
Kohler led all MAC freshmen in numerous categories in league games, including scoring, assists, assist/turnover ratio, minutes played and field-goal percentage.
Velasco led all MAC players in assists per game in conference contests, and surpassed the 1,000-point mark for her career in the final game of the regular season. She was named to the 2023-24 Academic All-America Third Team, selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC), becoming the Falcons' first Academic All-American in 20 years.
Graham-Blincoe joined the Falcons after spending the 2022-23 season as an assistant coach at Wittenberg University. The Tigers’ staff was named the North Coast Athletic Conference’s 2023 Coaching Staff of the Year honors. Wittenberg earned a share of the NCAC championship with a league record of 13-1, and the Tigers went 21-5 overall.
Prior to her season at Wittenberg, Graham-Blincoe spent the 2021-22 campaign as the first-ever Director of Basketball Operations for the Bellarmine University women’s basketball team. That came after she served as an assistant coach on the staff at Georgetown College (Ky.).
“I am ecstatic to announce my acceptance of this position at BGSU,” said Graham-Blincoe at the time of her hiring. “Joining this esteemed program under the leadership of Coach Fred Chmiel is an incredible opportunity, and I am eager to contribute to its continued success.
“I want to express my deepest gratitude to Derek van der Merwe, Stacy Kosciak and Coach Chmiel for placing their trust in me and giving me this remarkable opportunity. Coach Chmiel’s extensive knowledge, passion for the game, and unwavering commitment to developing athletes are truly inspiring. I am humbled to work alongside such a respected and accomplished coach and look forward to learning from his expertise.
“I would also like to extend my appreciation to my previous coach at Wittenberg University, Coach Melissa Kolbe. Her guidance and support have been instrumental in shaping and preparing me for this new chapter.
“I am excited about the new challenges and possibilities that await me at BGSU. With the support of Coach Chmiel, Coach DiPillo, Coach Lucas, the talented athletes, and the BGSU community, I am ready to make a positive impact and help add to the success of this program.”
