Story No. 5 From 2011-12: The Stroh Center Rap Goes Viral
July 05, 2012 | General
Throughout the summer, the Bowling Green Athletics Department will be counting down the top 10 stories of the 2011-12 school year, as voted on by members of the Athletics Department administration and the Athletics Communications Department. We will release the list one at a time throughout the summer, until the No. 1 moment of 2011-12 is revealed on Wednesday, Aug. 1 -- the day before BGSU football camp opens.
The opening of the Stroh Center in 2011 was a huge addition to Bowling Green State University and the community of Bowling Green. And nothing encapsulated the opening more than the Stroh Center Rap.
Featuring lyrics delivered by BGSU student Mikey "Rosco" Blair, the video features major donors in gym shorts and handling basketballs. It was featured on numerous national outlets, including ESPN and ESPN.com. To date, it has garnered more than 170,000 views. And it spawned one of the more popular phrases of the year -- "Where my Falcons at?"
While many people have tried to determine if their last name features a higher percentage of consonants than "Schmidthorst" and others have tried to figure out how to melt a face with philanthropy, the Stroh Center Rap provided a tremendous opportunity to get BGSU additional national recognition.
The Stroh Center Rap has received numerous awards and most recently was given a Grand Gold Award in the 2012 Circle of Excellence from The Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). That release can be viewed by CLICKING HERE.
