No. 8 Story of 2012-13: Swimming Skyrockets Up MAC Standings
June 26, 2013 | General, Women's Swimming & Diving
For the fourth year in a row, BGSU Athletics will be counting down the top stories of the year all summer long. 2012-13 was a banner year for athletics at BGSU and the list of best moments of the year is arguably the strongest since beginning this annual event.
We will release the list one at a time throughout the summer until the No. 1 story of the year is announced on Aug. 5 -- just as BGSU football camp gets underway and the 2013-14 season has officially started! Don't forget to purchase your season tickets NOW!
BGSU Swimming Skyrockets Up MAC Standings
For most of the past decade, the BGSU swimming team finished among the bottom third of the Mid-American Conference. But in 2012-13, the program jumped five spots at the MAC Tournament, finishing third just a year after placing eighth. It was the first time since 2004 that the team ended that high and Petra Martin deservedly earned MAC Coach of the year honors in her third year rebuilding the program.

Senior Alexa Harris broke five school records at the meet and freshman Daniela Carrillo became the first BGSU swimmer to qualify for the NCAA Championships since 1996, competing in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke (FOR NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP RECAP, CLICK HERE). Harris earned first team All-MAC honors and another five swimmers were named to the second team in Carrillo, senior Alexis Kain, juniors Emily Waller and Joelle Scheps, and sophomore Stephanie Boyle.
