No. 7 Story Of 2012-13: The Monster Of The MAC
July 01, 2013 | Football, General
For the fourth year in a row, BGSU Athletics will be counting down the top stories of the year all summer long. 2012-13 was a banner year for athletics at BGSU and the list of best moments of the year is arguably the strongest since beginning this annual event.
We will release the list one at a time throughout the summer until the No. 1 story of the year is announced on Aug. 5 -- just as BGSU football camp gets underway and the 2013-14 season has officially started! Don't forget to purchase your season tickets NOW!
Chris Jones Dominates The MAC, Named First Team All-America And MAC Defensive Player of the Year
Entering his senior year, it was expected that Chris Jones would anchor a defense primed to be one of the best in the Mid-American Conference. Not only did Jones do just that, but he led a unit that was arguably the best in the MAC. Jones was among the nation's quarterback sack leaders all year long, was named MAC Defensive Player of the Year and earned the Football Writer's Association of America First Team All-America honors. Three times he was MAC East Defensive Player of the Week and he was an Associated Press Third Team All-American. (CHRIS JONES 2012 HIGHLIGHTS)
One of Jones' best games came in a win over Miami, when the Monster of the MAC had 2.5 sacks and rumbled 23 yards for a touchdown after a fumble recovery. He added 2.5 sacks against Eastern Michigan, had two more against Toledo and posted 1.5 versus Idaho.
Following the season, Jones was picked by the Houston Texans in the sixth round of the NFL Draft. (CLICK HERE FOR FULL RELEASE/VIDEO)
