One of the most successful pitchers in Bowling Green history, Doug Bair's 120 strikeouts in 1971 was a MAC record at the time. His 203 career strikeouts ranked third on the conference's all-time list when he graduated. Highlighting a career which saw him earn spots on the second team All-MAC in 1970 and first team in 1971. Bair earned All-Mideast (Second Team) in 1971. Bair is sixth all time in inning pitched in 1971 with 89.2. Bair's best game in his career was a no-hitter against Miami(OH) on April 24, 1970.

Bair was drafted in the second round of the 1971 MLB Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates. His 15-year major league career included stops in Pittsburgh, Oakland, Cincinnati, Detroit, St. Louis, Philadelphia and Toronto. He appeared in the postseason three times, winning World Series titles with the Cardinals (1982) and Tigers (1984). His lone career major league home run on May 20, 1981 was a three-run shot in the ninth inning against the Chicago Cubs, providing the eventual margin of victory for the Reds.

He was inducted to the BGSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1978.
