Larry Owen was one of the MAC's hardest hitters in his time at Bowling Green. In 1976, he shared the conference lead in homeruns with 10, and his 14 long balls in 1977 not only gave him sole possession of the MAC home run crown, but also set a new conference record for career home runs, breaking the mark set by Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt of Ohio University. That season also earned Owen a spot on the All-MAC and All-District/Region first team, and a second team All-American selection and was named captain.Â
Drafted in the 17th round of the 1977 MLB Draft by Atlanta, Owen played parts of six seasons with the Braves and the Kansas City Royals.
Larry Owen was inducted into the BGSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1986.
