Phil Koester

Possibly the best diver in the history of the Mid-American Conference, Phil Koester is the only diver in league history to win four one-meter diving titles and the only one to win seven league titles in the one- and three-meter events combined. He captured MAC three-meter titles as a sophomore, junior, and senior, while finishing runner-up as a freshman. He qualified as a sophomore and senior. He placed 28th nationally on the three-meter board and 35th in the one-meter in 1983. In 1981 he placed29th in the three-meter event.Â
An Ann Arbor, Mich. native, Koester was named the Diver of the Year in the MAC following the 1982 and 1983 league meets. He set the league record in the three-meter event with 510.55 points in 1983.Â
The captain and team MVP his senior year, Koester won the prestigious Mike Peppe Invitational in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida in 1980. Koester came to be the Falcons diving coach from 1994-2002.Â
Phil Koester was inducted to the BGSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1990.
