Game #3 - Sept. 18 - at Marshall 35, Bowling Green 16
December 19, 1999 | Football
Sept. 18, 1999
The win was the 26th straight for Marshall at home. The difference in the game was the ability of Marshall to get their running game going against the Falcon defense which came into the game #1 in the MAC, the difference in productivity of the two teams in the red zone.
Marshall scored all five of its touchdowns on its five penetrations inside the BG 20-yard line while the Falcons were in the red zone four times, but came away with three field goals and their only touchdown.
The Falcons broke on top early with the first of three Jason Strasser field goals, but Marshall responded with touchdowns on its next two possessions.
After the Falcons hit for their only touchdown of the game, an 11-yard pass from Ricky Schneider Keivn Steinke, Marshall went 58 yards in three plays to score and then nullified a Falcon field goal with another touchdown just 1:15 before halftime to take a 28-13 lead to the locker room.
The Falcons inched closer with a field goal to cap a 76-yard, 17-play drive to start the second half, but once again Marshall answered with a touchdown drive on its first possession of the second half to complete the scoring.
Marshall had a 461 to 247 edge in total offense as BG managed just 98 total yards in the second half.
