Oct. 18, 1999
THIS WEEK: For the most part, the Bowling Green State University cross country teams are idle until the Mid-American Conference Championships at Kent. The league meet will be held on Saturday, October 30, with the women's race beginning at 11:00 a.m. and the men's race commencing at noon. The BGSU women have won the MAC title in three of the last four seasons, while the Falcon men last won the league crown in 1995.
Prior to the league meet, the BGSU men of head coach Sterling Martin will compete at Saturday's (Oct. 23) Eastern Michigan Open in Ypsilanti, Mich. The EMU Open will begin at 5:30 p.m. Most likely, BGSU's competitors at EMU will be runners that will not be among the team's entrants at the league meet the next weekend.
The BGSU women, under the direction of first-year coach Cami Wells, are idle until the MAC race.
LAST WEEKEND: The BGSU men finished fifth at the Queen City Invitational in Cincinnati Friday (Oct. 15), while the Falcon women, competing in the "B" race at the Pre-NCAA Meet in Bloomington, Ind., placed third overall.
For the second-straight meet, the men were paced by Dave Larson, who was 10th of 119 total finishers. Chad Kunkle was 21st, while Dan Flaute finished 25th in the race.
At IU, the women were led for the fourth-straight meet by junior Christine Thompson, who placed 24th in the 173-woman race. Angie Michael was 38th overall, while Brianna Killian placed 41st.
