BOWLING GREEN, OH -
Bowling Green State University Athletic Director Paul Krebs says that Falcon Football Coach Gary Blackney is the person to take the Falcons into 2000.
"I was pleased with the way that our team finished the season, and I see the potential for continued success in the 2000 season," Krebs says. "I measure success not only on the playing field, but also in the classroom. Gary's teams have always been strong academically." There will be, however, some restructuring among the coaching staff.
Two assistant coaches have resigned from their current positions to pursue other career opportunities and will be reassigned to another area in the Division of Student Affairs for the remainder of the academic year. These positions include the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, Michael Faragalli, and the offensive tackles and tight ends coach, Mark Murray.
Faragalli, 40, just completed his fourth year of coaching in his second stint at BGSU. After four seasons (1991-94) as the offensive coordinator at Bowling Green, he spent the 1995 as the head coach at Toronto of the Canadian Football League. He returned to Bowling Green in 1996, again as the offensive coordinator. Prior to coming to BGSU in 1991, Faragalli spent three seasons as the offensive coordinator at Edmonton, one season in Montreal, and two in Hamilton as the offensive coordinator.
Murray, 38, began coaching at BGSU in 1996. In 1995, he was the offensive line/fullback coach at Toronto in the Canadian Football League. Prior to his appointment at Toronto, he spent six seasons as an assistant coach at the U.S. Naval Academy, and he was the interim head coach at the Naval Academy Preparatory School in Newport, R.I. for one season. He also served as the offensive line coach/offensive coordinator at Wagner College in Staten Island, N.Y. for six seasons. Murray began his coaching career at the University of Albany in 1982.
"Mike and Mark have worked very hard for this football team," says Head Coach Gary Blackney. "I certainly wish them the best of luck."
