Bowling Green State University Head Women's Golf Coach Kurt Thomas announced today the signing of two student-athletes to national letters of intent during the early signing period.
Thomas said Jenny Schnipke from Columbus Grove, Ohio, and Kari Evans from Louisville, Kentucky, have each decided to attend BGSU beginning in the fall of 2000.
Schnipke, currently a senior at Kalida High School, was a four-year golf letterwinner on the men's team for coach Ken Schnipke. She earned second- team all-county honors the last two years. This past season, she was a three-time medalist and was part of the first undefeated team in school history. KHS also placed fourth at the state championship in 1999. Schnipke averaged 40.4 for nine holes this past season.
A member of the Academic Club at Kalida, Schnipke plans to major in Education at BGSU.
Evans, currently a senior at Eastern High School, won two Pepsi Junior Golf Tournaments this summer. In June, she placed first out of 20 at the Glenmary Country Club, while in July, she was first of 20 golfers at the Juniper Hills Golf Course event. Evans concluded the Pepsi Tour Championship with a fourth place finish at the London Country Club.
As a junior she placed sixth at the regional high school tournament held at the Woodhaven Country Club (top five qualified for state).
Evans, a member of the National Honor Society, also served as her team captain as a junior.
The Bowling Green State University women's golf team participated in four fall matches and will compete in six spring matches including the 2000 Mid-American Conference tournament. Three of the nine current members of the golf team will graduate in May, 2000.
