CLEVELAND, Ohio - Bowling Green women's basketball player Angie Farmer was named the Mid-American Conference Female Scholar Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced today (Jan. 31, 2000). The award is given to one male and one female each week.
Western Michigan track athlete Dale Cowper captured the men's weekly award.
Farmer, a junior, has a 3.87 cumulative grade point average as an education major (social studies emphasis). A native of Wayland, Mich., she scored 18 points in BG's lone game last week, a 94-72 win over Akron.
In the UA game, Farmer made six three-pointers, just one shy of her own school record. In the process, she set BG's single-season record for treys with 56, breaking the old school record of 53 (Sara Puthoff, 1994-95). Farmer helped Bowling Green set school single-game records and tie the MAC records with 16 triples made and 38 attempted vs. the Zips.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a one male and one female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. The winners are selected by one of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
The Falcons (5-14 overall, 3-6 MAC) return to action with a Wednesday (Feb. 2) game at Marshall. BGSU then returns home for a Monday (Feb. 7) game vs. Northern Illinois at venerable Anderson Arena.
