Falcons Fall To UNC Charlotte, 72-62

BLACKSBURG, VA. -
The Falcons never led in dropping a 72-62 decision to the Lady 49ers in the first round of the Hokie Hardwood Classic in Blacksburg, Va. The Brown and Orange will meet Hampton University, a 93-61 loser to host Virginia Tech, in the consolation game Thursday (Dec. 30).
BGSU trailed by 11 points at the half, but cut the UNCC lead to five points on several occasions in the second stanza. The Brown and Orange got as close as three points at 48-45 on a Sherry Kahle jumper midway through the half, but the Niners responded with the next three points of the contest on a free throw and a layup off a missed charity toss. BG never got closer than five points thereafter.
The Falcons were hurt by six UNCC three-point-play opportunities in the contest. The Lady 49ers converted the free throw on four of those occasions.
Francine Miller led BG with 16 points, 10 rebounds and four steals, setting game highs in all three categories. Angie Farmer had 14 points off the bench to join Miller in double figures.
Jameka Jones had 15 points to lead four UNCC players in double digits.
