The Bowling Green State University men's soccer team will face the University at Buffalo in the semifinal round of the MAC Tournament. The pairings were settled after UB's upset win over Akron Friday night (Nov. 3).
Buffalo, seeded sixth in the seven-team tournament, captured a 2-1 win over the third-seeded Zips behind a pair of Tim Songer goals. Songer opened the scoring at 71:09, then -- after UA's Matt Boswell tied the score at the 76:50 mark -- scored the winning goal with just 1:54 left in the second half.
UB will enter the semifinal round with a 6-9-2 overall record.
In other Friday action, #4 Kentucky posted a 1-0 win over fifth-seeded Northern Illinois, while second-seeded Marshall was a 2-1, double-overtime winner over #7 Western Michigan. The top-seeded Falcons (8-7-1 overall) drew a first-round bye for the league tournament.
The teams were reseeded after Friday's matches, all of which were held at Buffalo. Sunday's (Nov. 5) semifinal contests also will be held at UB, with BGSU taking on the host Bulls at 2:30 p.m. Marshall and Kentucky will meet in the day's other semifinal match.
Falcon fans making the trip to Buffalo can see a BGSU doubleheader, as the Falcon women will take on Miami in the championship match of the MAC Women's Soccer Tournament at 11:00 a.m.
Should the BGSU men win against UB Sunday, the Falcons would host the championship match against either MU or UK next weekend at Cochrane Field.
Just last weekend (Oct. 27), in the regular-season match between the teams, host BGSU posted a 3-0 win over UB behind goals from Detrick Matthews, Gene Braxton and Matt Lyons, as well as the shutout goalkeeping of Dave DeGraff.
