TOLEDO, Ohio - The Bowling Green women's tennis team fell from the ranks of the unbeaten with a narrow, 4-3 loss to DePaul University in dual-match play Sunday (Feb. 13). The match was held at Shadow Valley in Toledo.
For the fifth time in as many duals, BGSU captured the doubles point. The Brown and Orange received doubles victories from the top-flight tandem of juniors Abby Bratton and Erika Wasilewski, as well as from the team of junior Tracy Howitt and sophomore Devon Bissinger at the number-three flight. The visiting Blue Demons battled back, however, to capture four of the six singles flights and the overall victory.
In singles action, the Falcons got wins from senior Deidee Bissinger at the fourth flight and Howitt at the sixth flight, both in straight sets. Wasilewski, junior Meghan Rhodes and Bratton suffered losses at flights one through three, respectively, while Devon Bissinger lost a close match at the fifth flight.
The Falcons lost for the first time in five duals this season. BGSU's 4-0 start had been the team's best since the 1992-93 season.
BGSU returns to action with a pair of duals in Lincoln, Neb., next weekend. The Falcons will take on host Nebraska Friday evening (Feb. 18), before meeting Wyoming in a neutral-site contest Saturday afternoon (Feb. 19).
