BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -
UP NEXT: The Bowling Green State University women's tennis team, having fallen from the ranks of the unbeaten by the slimmest of margins, will be away from home for the next five duals, beginning with a pair of matches in Lincoln, Neb., this weekend. The Falcons of coach Penny Dean will face Nebraska in a Friday (Feb. 18) afternoon match, before playing Wyoming in a neutral-site contest Saturday (Feb. 19). Friday's match against the Cornhuskers is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. local time (5:00 p.m. Eastern), while the contest vs. the Cowgirls will start at 10:00 a.m. local time (11:00 a.m. Eastern).
BGSU's next home action will be the Mid-American Conference opener, a dual against Miami University March 24 at Keefe Courts.
LAST WEEK: The Falcons fell from the ranks of the unbeaten with a 4-3 loss to DePaul Sunday (Feb. 13). The match was held at Shadow Valley in Toledo.
The Falcons' 4-0 start in dual play was the team's best since the 1992-93 season. No BGSU team has won the first five duals of the season since the 1982-83 squad began the year with a 6-0 record.
For the fifth time in as many duals this year, BGSU captured the doubles point. The Brown and Orange received doubles victories from the top-flight tandem of juniors Abby Bratton and Erika Wasilewski, as well as the duo of sophomore Devon Bissinger and junior Tracy Howitt at the number-three flight.
The visiting Blue Demons battled back, however, to capture four of the six singles flights and the overall victory.
In singles play, the Falcons got wins from senior Deidee Bissinger at the fourth flight and Howitt at the sixth flight, both in straight sets. Wasilewski, junior Meghan Rhodes and Bratton suffered losses at flights one through three, respectively, while Devon Bissinger lost a close match at the fifth flight.
