BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The NCAA has released the latest Division I women's basketball statistics, and Bowling Green State University is listed in a number of categories. As a team, the Falcons continue to lead the nation in three-point field goals made per game, with an average of 9.18 (NCAA stats through games of Monday, Feb. 14). Through 22 contests this season (as of Monday), BGSU had already set a school record by making a total of 202 three-pointers. The "old" school record of 135 successful three-pointers in a season was set just last winter.
After last night's (Feb. 15) win over Ohio, 70-65, the Falcons have improved the team average to 9.30 three-pointers per game. That figure, if BG can maintain it, would be the highest seasonal average in NCAA Division I history. The 1993-94 South Carolina team is the only team to date to average more than nine successful treys per game, with 9.19 (top-five list below). BGSU has made 214 treys this season.
Additionally, BGSU was sixth in the nation in free-throw percentage, with a success rate of .761 as of Monday. After the OU win, that percentage stands at .756.
Individually, junior Angie Farmer ranks among the national leaders in three-point field goals made per game. Farmer, averaging 2.9 treys per game at the time the stats were released (10th in the nation), has made a school-record 70 in 23 contests through the Ohio game. She is now averaging 3.04 treys per outing.
Senior Jaymee Wappes was 19th in the nation in assists, with 6.14 as of Monday. Wappes now averages 6.09 helpers per contest. Sophomore Francine Miller was 25th in the nation with a .446 three-point field-goal percentage, and has improved her success rate to .453 after the OU game.
The NCAA Division I statistics are released each week (generally late Tuesday or early Wednesday) during the season. National stats will be released each week through March 4.
BGSU is 7-16 overall, and 5-8 in Mid-American Conference play. The Falcons will conclude a four-game homestand with a Saturday (Feb. 19) contest vs. Miami. That game, the regular-season final, will begin at 1:00 p.m. at BG's venerable Anderson Arena.
