BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - UP NEXT: The Bowling Green State University women's tennis team, after splitting a pair of matches last weekend, are idle until a week from Saturday (March 4). On that date, the Falcons of head coach Penny Dean will head to southern Ohio to take on the University of Cincinnati in a 6:00 p.m. match.
The Falcons are in the midst of a five-match road swing. BGSU's next home action will be the Mid-American Conference opener against Miami March 24 at Keefe Courts.
LAST WEEK: The Falcons split a pair of matches in Lincoln, Neb., losing to host Nebraska Friday (Feb. 18) before rebounding to defeat Wyoming Saturday (Feb. 19).
Host NU won all six singles flights en route to an 8-1 win over the Falcons. BGSU's lone win on the afternoon came at the number-two doubles flight, courtesy of senior Deidee Bissinger and junior Meghan Rhodes.
Nebraska entered the match ranked 73rd in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tenis Association. The Cornhuskers have lost only to ninth-ranked Texas this season.
On Saturday, BGSU broke a two-match losing streak with a 7-2 win over UW. The Falcons captured all three doubles matches, with the team of juniors Abby Bratton and Erika Wasilewski emerging victorious at the top flight. Deidee Bissinger and Rhodes won for the second-straight day at the second flight, while the team of sophomore Devon Bissinger and senior Beth Wilson won at the number-three level.
In singles action, Bratton and Wasilewski lost at the top-two flights, but BGSU's remaining four singles competitors captured victories. Rhodes won at the third flight, while Deidee Bissinger captured a three-set decision at the fourth level.
At the fifth flight, Devon Bissinger defeated her Cowgirl foe, while junior Tracy Howitt posted a straight-sets win at the sixth level.
With her three overall wins last weekend, Deidee Bissinger has moved into a tie for second place on the BGSU career list with 141 combined wins. Bissinger, deadlocked with Jenny Cheung, is just two wins shy of Cindy Mikolajewski's all-time school record. On the singles list, Bissinger's 73 career wins are good for fourth place.
