BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -
UP NEXT: The Bowling Green State University men's tennis team, after splitting a pair of Saturday (Feb. 5) matches, is idle until Feb. 18. On that date, the Falcons of coach Jay Harris will take on Ferris State. That dual match is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start at the Laurel Hill Swim & Tennis Club in Toledo.
LAST WEEK: The Falcons split a pair of matches Saturday (Feb. 5), falling to Butler by a narrow 4-3 margin, before sweeping IUPUI, 7-0. Both matches were held in Toledo, at Central Tennis & Fitness and Laurel Hill, respectively.
In the Butler match, the Bulldogs took two of the three doubles matches to capture the doubles point. BGSU's lone victory came courtesy of a pair of freshmen, Geoff Hiscox and Nicolas Lopez-Acevedo, at the second flight.
In singles action, all six matches required the minimum two sets to complete. BG players fell at each of the top three flights, but the Falcons got wins from Micael Lopez-Acevedo at the fourth flight, Mike Kossoff at the fifth flight and Brandon Gabel at the sixth level.
Later that day, the Falcons won every individual match against IUPUI. BG received straight-sets singles from two freshmen, two sophomores, a junior and a senior. The frosh, Nicolas Lopez-Acevedo and Peter Gardonyi, won at the first and third flights, respectively. Sophomore Ed Kuresman was victorious at the second flight, while senior Sonny Huynh lost just two games en route to his flight-four win.
Junior Ben Ashford won at the fifth spot, while Kossoff lost just one game to his Jaguar opponent at the sixth flight.
The Falcons' victorious doubles teams included sophomore Vitek Wild and Micael Lopez-Acevedo at the top level, Kuresman and Huynh at the second flight, and Kossoff and Gardonyi at the number-three flight.
