Oestreng Named MAC Scholar Athlete

Bowling Green State University gymnast Marny Oestreng (Trogstad, Norway) was named Mid-American Conference Scholar Athlete for the week ending March 21, 2000.
Oestreng, a sophomore, earned All-MAC First Team honors at the 2000 Mid-American Conference Gymnastics championships held this past weekend at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti.
She defended two MAC titles with scores of 9.875 on the vault and 39.450 in the all-around. Oestreng, who maintains a 3.56 cumulative grade-point average in Management Information Systems, placed second in the floor exercise (9.900), tied for second on the beam (9.850) and finished fifth on the bars (9.825).
Oestreng is the No. 1 individual qualifier for the NCAA Region IV Championship in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on April 1. She is also the defending NCAA Champion on the floor exercise.
The honor is presented to MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. The winners are selected by one of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
