BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -
UP NEXT: The Bowling Green State University women's tennis team hits the road for five consecutive matches, beginning with a pair of Mid-American Conference contests this weekend. The Falcons of head coach Penny Dean, 6-6 in dual play, will play at Akron Friday (March 31) before heading to Buffalo Saturday (April 1). Both matches are scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
The Falcons are not scheduled to play at home again until the weekend of April 21-22.
LAST WEEK: The Falcons opened Mid-American Conference play with a pair of home matches. After a landmark win over Miami, 5-2, Friday (March 24), BGSU fell to Marshall by a 6-1 score Saturday (March 26).
The Falcons broke a 23-match losing streak to Miami, downing the RedHawks for just the second time ever. The win was BG's first over MU since the 1974-75 season.
In that match, senior Deidee Bissinger recorded a straight-sets win over MU's Erica Echko at the fourth singles flight. Bissinger also teamed with junior Meghan Rhodes for a win at the second doubles flight.
The Falcons could win just one singles and one doubles flight against Marshall. Junior Tracy Howitt was victorious at the sixth singles flight, while the Deidee Bissinger/Rhodes team won again at the second doubles level.
For Deidee Bissinger, the three weekend wins gave her a career total of 146 and moved her past Cindy Mikolajewski (143 from 1994-97) for the all-time BGSU record.
On the singles list, Bissinger now is tied for second with Mikolajewski and Carla Marshak (1989-92) with 75 career wins. She is just four wins behind all-time leader Julie Weisblatt (1994-97).
Deidee Bissinger now is tied for second on the doubles wins list. She and Jenny Schwartz (1994-97) have 71 total wins, 13 behind Jenny Cheung (1995-98).
