MIAMI, Fla. - The Bowling Green softball team broke into the winning column with a 2-0, extra-inning victory over Robert Morris Saturday (March 4). The game was the Falcons' fourth in the Golden Panther Invitational, hosted by Florida International University.
The contest was scoreless until the top of the ninth. Senior Colleen Bates started the inning at second base by virtue of the international tiebreaker rule. Bates promptly stole third base, and junior Lynsey Ebel then reached on an error, with Bates holding at third base. Junior Morgan LaNicca pinch-ran for Ebel, and immediately stole second base.
With runners on second and third, senior Erin Zwinck came to bat. Zwinck, the Falcons' hitting star so far this young season, did not disappoint, lacing a double to score both runners. That proved to be all the scoring in the game.
Sophomore pitcher Jessie Milosek earned the victory to even her record at 1-1. The Falcons are now 1-3 on the season.
The Falcons had five hits to RMC's four in the game.
Zwinck has now had three multiple-hit games in the season's first four contests. She has five of the team's seven RBI on the year.
BGSU completes play in the Golden Panther Invitational on Sunday (March 5).
