The Bowling Green State University women's gymnastics team completed the Mid-American Conference dual-meet portion of its 2000 schedule last Friday (March 3) at Kent. The Golden Flashes edged the Falcons, 196.575 to 194.600. BG's team score is a school record, breaking the mark of 194.475 set last season in a win over Ball State.
Bowling Green will be participating in its final meet of the regular-season this Saturday in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The Falcons will face the host Wolverines and the University of Florida.
The MAC Championships will be held March 18 at Eastern Michigan.
In the loss at Kent last Friday, BG was led by sophomore Marny Oestreng (Trogstad, Norway). She was the top individual for the Falcons finishing in a first-place tie in the vault with a score of 9.900 and placing second in the all-around with a total of 39.500. Her all-around score was just one-tenth of a point shy of tying her own school record.
Oestreng tied for second in the uneven bars (9.925), while finishing in fourth-place ties in both the balance beam (9.775) and the floor exercise (9.900).
Junior Amber Curry (Pittsburgh, Pa./Jefferson) turned in the next best finish by a BG gymnast, placing fourth in the vault with a score of 9.775.
Freshman Ann Marie Kassouf (Middleburg Heights, Ohio/Midpark) was the top BG finisher in the balance beam with a score of 9.775 which was good for a fourth-place tie with Oestreng.
Kassouf also had the top all-around mark of her young career with a score of 39.000.
