Men's Basketball Ranked Nationally In Several Categories

The NCAA has released the latest Division I men's basketball statistics, and Bowling Green State University is listed in several categories. As a team, the Falcons are third in the nation in field-goal percentage, converting 49.8 percent of the time (NCAA stats through games of Monday, March 6). BGSU sophomore Len Matela (Merrillville, Ind./Andrean) would rank third in the country in individual field-goal pct., but does not have enough field goals to qualify. Matela, shooting 62.7% on the season, is just four successful baskets shy of qualifying for the national leaders.
Additionally, BGSU currently ranks 17th in the nation in free-throw percentage, having converted at a 74.4% rate this winter.
Individually, sophomore Keith McLeod (Canton, Ohio/McKinley) ranks third in the nation in three-point field-goal percentage. McLeod has made 49 treys in 100 attempts, for a 49.0% rate.
The next NCAA Division I statistics update will take place at the conclusion of the NCAA Basketball Championships.
The Falcons are 22-7 overall after a Mid-American Conference Tournament loss to Miami Sunday (March 5). The Brown and Orange lost to the RedHawks, 58-56 in overtime, in the tourney's quarterfinal round. BGSU won the MAC's regular-season crown with a 14-4 league record.
