The NCAA has released the final 1999-2000 Division I men's basketball statistics, and Bowling Green State University is listed in several categories. As a team, the Falcons were fourth in the nation in field-goal percentage, converting 49.2 percent of the time.
BGSU sophomore Len Matela (Merrillville, Ind./Andrean) would have ranked third in the country in individual field-goal pct., but did not have enough field goals to qualify. Matela, who shot 61.9% on the season, was just seven successful baskets shy of qualifying for the national leaders. He made 143 of his 231 field-goal attempts on the year, and the NCAA minimum is 5.0 successful baskets per game.
Additionally, BGSU ranked 17th in the nation in free-throw percentage, having converted at a 74.3% rate this winter.
Individually, sophomore Keith McLeod (Canton, Ohio/McKinley) ranked seventh in the nation in three-point field-goal percentage. McLeod made 51 treys in 107 attempts, for a 47.7% rate.
The Falcons finished 22-8 overall, and won the MAC's regular-season crown with a 14-4 league record. BGSU advanced to the National Invitation Tournament.
