The Bowling Green men's tennis team won every flight in a 7-0 victory at Eastern Michigan Friday (April 21). The Mid-American Conference dual was held at the Chippewa Racket Club in Ypsilanti, Mich.
With the win, the Falcons (now 14-7 overall, 4-1 MAC) kept alive the team's hope of a MAC co-championship. BGSU needs a win in Saturday's (April 22) match at Toledo, and a Western Michigan win over Ball State in Kalamazoo. BGSU and WMU wins would create a three-way tie for the conference title between the Falcons, Cardinals and Broncos.
BGSU won all six singles matches, with straight-set wins in five of those contests, and the Falcons swept all three doubles matches as well. Freshman Nicolas Lopez-Acevedo was victorious at the top singles level, while the other singles victors -- in order -- were sophomores Vitek Wild and Mike Kossoff, freshman Micael Lopez-Acevedo, sophomore Ed Kuresman and junior Brandon Gabel.
The Gabel/Wild team won at the top doubles flight, while the #2 team of Kuresman and freshman Geoff Hiscox was triumphant as well. The Falcons' third-flight duo of Nicolas Lopez-Acevedo and freshman Peter Gardonyi also won.
Eastern Michigan dropped to 8-15 overall and 1-5 in MAC action.
Saturday's BGSU-at-Toledo match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. in the Glass City.
