BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -
UP NEXT: The Bowling Green women's tennis team, after recording a pair of Mid-American Conference road shutout wins last weekend, continues a five-match road swing with a single contest this week. The Falcons of head coach Penny Dean, 8-6 in dual play and 3-1 in MAC action, will play at Ball State Thursday (April 6), with start time scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
Next weekend (April 14-15), the Brown and Orange will play dual matches at Northern Illinois and Western Michigan. The Falcons are not scheduled to play at home again until the weekend of April 21-22.
LAST WEEK: The Falcons hit the road and posted a pair of 7-0 MAC wins. After downing a depleted Akron squad Friday (March 31), the Brown and Orange bested Buffalo in Saturday action (April 1).
BGSU played without the services of senior co-captain Deidee Bissinger. The Falcons' all-time winningest player, Bissinger did not make the trip due to illness. She is expected to return to the lineup at BSU.
Akron faced the Falcons with just five available players due to injuries. A BGSU trio of juniors - Abby Bratton, Meghan Rhodes and Erika Wasilewski - won at flights one through three, respectively. Sophomore Devon Bissinger won at the fourth level, while junior Tracy Howitt recorded a 6-0, 6-0 win at flight #5. Senior co-captain Beth Wilson won by default at the sixth level.
In doubles, the Bratton/Wasilewski team was victorious at the top flight, as was the #2 tandem of Rhodes/Devon Bissinger. Wilson and senior Kelly Dredge won by default at the third flight.
At Buffalo, Bratton, Rhodes and Wasilewski won at the top three singles flights, and Howitt moved up to the fourth flight and recorded a win. Wilson and Dredge won at the fifth and sixth singles levels, respectively. All six singles competitors won in straight sets and lost three games or fewer. Wasilewski and Dredge each won by 6-0, 6-0 scores.
The winning doubles teams, in order, were Bratton/Wasilewski, Dredge/Devon Bissinger and Howitt/Wilson.
