Bowling Green won its second straight game this week beating the Dayton Flyers 11-4 at home on Wednesday.
The Falcons scored three times in the first inning. With two outs, Kenny Burdine singled to right center and rode home on a Lee Morrison double. Morrison scored on Scott Dukate's first triple of the year with Dukate scoring on Kelly Hunt's single to right center.
The Orange and Brown added three more runs in the second inning. Brad Simon led off with a single to third, advanced to second on a fielder's choice and scored on an Aric Christman single to right center. After Matt Best reached on an error, he and Christman pulled off a double steal. Christman scored on a groundout and Best scored on another Morrison single.
In the fourth inning Bowling Green scored four more runs all on homers by Morrison and Dukate. Christman led off getting hit by a pitch, Best reached on an error and with one out Morrison drilled a 1-1 offering over the right centerfield fence. On the next pitch, Dukate smacked a solo homer to center opening up the Falcons' lead to 10-2.
The last BG run came in the sixth inning when Best began the inning with a bunt single. With two outs and Best on second, pinch-hitter Sean Ryan doubled to right center scoring Best.
Junior Tony Fontana was credited with the win improving his record to 7-3 on BG "staff" day as nine different pitchers each hurled an inning.
Bowling Green is now 27-22-1 overall, while Dayton falls to 21-29. The Falcons will conclude the regular-season with four home games this weekend against Akron. Doubleheader action both days at Steller Field begins at 1 p.m. BG enters the weekend with a league record of 12-10 and in third place in the Mid-American Conference East Division. The Falcons' magic number to secure a playoff berth is four (BG wins and/or Miami losses). Miami plays host to Ohio University on Saturday and Sunday.
