BOWLING GREEN, O. - After the fall semester, the BGSU coaches were all smiles when their student-athletes recorded the highest cumulative grade point average (GPA) in school history with a 2.95. Now that the final scores are in for the spring semester, those smiles are even wider...the Falcons have set a new record with a 2.96 GPA.
"This is a testament to the hard work of our student-athletes, coaches, and academic support staff members," said Athletics Director Paul Krebs.
The Falcons scored a 2.91 on the semester, with 52% of the student-athletes achieving a GPA above a 3.00. An astounding 46 student-athletes recorded a 4.00 on the semester, while 76 were between a 3.50 and a 3.99. Eleven teams achieved a semester GPA of 3.00 or above, including Men's Soccer, Men's Tennis, Women's Basketball, Women's Cross Country, Women's Golf, Gymnastics, Women's Soccer, Softball, Women's Tennis, Women's Track, and Volleyball. Overall, female student-athletes averaged a 3.20 on the semester, while male student-athletes averaged a 2.71.
Thirteen teams now have cumulative grade point averages above a 3.0. Out of 481 student-athletes, 209 (44%) have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. Fourteen Falcons have perfect scores across the board with 4.0's.
"We would like to get our cumulative GPA mark to a 3.0," said Assistant Athletics Director for Academics Jack Taylor. "That is our goal, and that is what we are going to work toward."
