Chuck Winters, a three-year letterwinner in lacrosse for the Falcons, was inducted into the Ohio Lacrosse Hall of Fame this past Saturday.
The Rochester, New York native, originally came to BG to play football for legendary coach Doyt Perry. He had eight goals his junior year which was sixth on the team, and added 17 as a senior which tied for third on the team. Winters earned honorable mention All-American honors as a senior and participated in the North-South game that year.
He was a second-team All-Midwest selection as a sophomore and junior, and a first team honoree as a senior. Winters also served as co-captain his senior season. He served as a graduate assistant coach at BG in 1970 before spending two seasons as an assistant coach at SUNY Cortland. He then took over as head coach at SUNY Cortland for nine years winning the 1973 and 1975 NCAA Division II national titles.
Winters was the NCAA Coach-of-the-Year runner-up in 1975. He also tutored 41 all-americans during his coaching tenure. He then became the associate athletic director at Army for seven years and has been the athletic director at Gettysburg College for the last 10 years. He has also been the secretary of the NCAA Lacrosse Rules Committee for the last 14 years.
He is the third former BG lacrosse person inducted into the Ohio Lacrosse Hall of Fame joining 1995 inductee Mickey Cochrane and 1996 honoree Mike Wilcox.
