BIRD WATCHING
The Falcons were picked to finish fifth in the East Division of the Mid-American Conference. The winner of the MAC Championship game (Dec. 2 at Huntington, WV) will earn a berth in the Motor City Bowl at the Silverdome, Dec. 27. The MAC champion will play a representative from Conference USA. BGSU returned 14 starters (5 on offense, 9 on defense) and 42 lettermen.
The Owls are picked to finish seventh in the eight-team Big East Conference. They return 44 lettermen and 12 starters (5 on offense and 7 on defense). Temple will play Eastern Michigan on September 23. Coach Bobby Wallace is in his third year at Temple (5-19) and has an 87-55-1 overall record as a head coach, winning four national titles in 10 years at North Alabama.
FALCONS TAKE FLIGHT ON THE ROAD
BGSU will play its next three games on the road prior to returning back to BG for Homecoming , October 7. The Falcons will play the first of three consecutive night games at 6 p.m., at Temple. The following week, BGSU will open conference play at Buffalo (7 p.m., September 23), and at Kent State (6 p.m., September 30).
TRAVEL PLANS
The Falcons will leave on a chartered flight Friday evening from Toledo Express Airport . The BGSU traveling party will stay at the Hilton Philadelphia Airport (215) 365-4150. Following the game, BGSU will return to Toledo late Saturday evening.
THE SERIES
This will be the fifth meeting in a series which began in 1953 and the fourth in Philadelphia. BGSU has won the last three meetings, including two under Coach Blackney. The two teams will meet again next season in BG.
