TOLEDO, Ohio - Three Bowling Green State University women's tennis players recorded second-place finishes as the Falcons opened the season by hosting the BGSU Invitational. Due to inclement weather, the Saturday-Sunday (Sept. 23-24) tournament was held at two indoor clubs in Toledo -- Laurel Hill and Shadow Valley -- rather than BGSU's Keefe Courts as originally scheduled.
Seniors Meghan Rhodes, Abby Bratton and Tracy Howitt all finished second, competing at the first, third and fourth flights, respectively. The Falcons' fourth senior, Abby Bratton, was third in flight #2 action.
A pair of freshmen also competed in singles play, as Gaby Coello was fifth at the fourth flight and Jessica Johnson was third at the fifth level.
In doubles, Rhodes and Wasilewski were fifth at the top flight, while Bratton and Coello teamed to place third at the second flight. Junior Devon Bissinger and freshman Lisa Maloney also competed at the middle flight, placing fifth. Howitt and Johnson were third at the third flight.
BGSU is next in action on Oct. 6-8, competing at the Wolverine Invitational at Ann Arbor, Mich.
