Falcons’ Ninth-Inning Rally Falls Short In Saturday’s Pitcher’s Duel
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team and the rival Toledo Rockets continued the weekend series in the Battle of I-75 presented by Fremont Federal Credit Union. After BGSU took the first game of the series on Friday (April 24) via the power swing, it was pitching that dominated Saturday's (April 25) contest. Both starters held a perfect game entering the fourth inning with the team's combining for just 10 hits and four runs. In the end, Toledo came out on top with a 3-1 final score, forcing a rubber match on Sunday (April 26) at Steller Field, set for a 1 p.m. first pitch.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both starting pitchers worked one-two-three frames in each of the first three innings with perfect games for both holding into the fourth.
- The first hits and first runs came in the fourth inning with Toledo taking a 2-0 lead.
- With one out in the bottom of the fourth, Sam Seidel was hit by a pitch to end the Toledo perfect game bid. The first hit for BGSU came in the bottom of the sixth with a single through the left side by Lance Vickers.
- The Rockets added a run in the seventh inning for a 3-0 score.
- Bowling Green worked for a ninth inning rally. Griffin Scheiderer got it started by legging out an infield single. Another single from Vickers, this time through the left side of the infield, put two on for BGSU. A fly out moved Scheiderer to third for runners at the corners before an Andrew DiLodovico grounder brought him home for a 3-1 score.
- The Falcons kept the pressure on with walks to Anthony Mitta and Brayden Curlis to load the bases and force a Toledo pitching change. The new arm was able to work out of the jam for the 3-1 final.
