Oestreng Named MAC Co-Gymnast of the Week

Co-MAC Gymnasts of the WeekMarny Oestreng Bowling Green (Jr., Trogstad, Norway) Oestreng tied her season-best to win the all-around title with a score of 39.125. She posted a 9.900 on the vault (first place), a season-best 9.925 (first place) on the bars and a 9.950 (first place) on the floor exercise.
Natalie Hashimoto Eastern Michigan (So., Scarborough, Ontario) Hashimoto turned in her best performance of the year in the Eagles' victory over Northern Illinois. Hashimoto won the all-around competition with a season-high 39.050, and captured first place in the vault competition with a score of 9.875, also a season-high. In the main event the Eagles have had troubles with all season, the uneven parallel bars, Hashimoto scored another season-high, 9.825, taking home first-place honors in the event.
Other Nominees
Jenny Gantt (BSU, Jr., Kettering, Ohio) tied the school record on the floor exercise with a score of 9.950, leading BSU to a team school-record score of 49.400. Gantt also tied her career-high of 9.725 on the bars, to tie for third place in the event.
Jenny Eckel (KSU, So., Milford, Ohio) scored a season-high 39.000 all-around for the Golden Flashes in their 193.750-193.275 victory over the Towson Tigers Jan. 27 in Charleston, W.Va. She finished third on beam with a 9.775 and fourth on bars with a 9.775. Eckel's 9.800 on the floor exercise placed her ninth. She has performed consistently for the past three weeks and has helped the Golden Flashes to a 3-3 overall record and an undefeated 1-0 mark in the MAC.
Anna Gardina (NIU, So., Gahanna, Ohio) recorded a first-place finish on the floor exercise with a 9.825 and added a second-place 9.775 on the balance beam. Both marks are season-highs and also the top Northern Illinois scores this season. Gardina captured her third top-five score on the vault, tallying a fourth-place 9.750 on her way to an all-around score of 38.325.
Christy Sassic (WMU, Fr., Beaver, Pa.) posted a school record for the second straight week with a 9.900 on the beam. Just four meets into her collegiate career, Sassic now owns the program standards on the beam and the floor exercise. She also earned a 9.675 on the vault and 9.750 on the floor at the meet.
