STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. - The magical run of Bowling Green State University's Geoff Hiscox finally came to an end Thursday (Oct. 11), as the Falcon junior was eliminated from the main draw of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Men's All-American Championships. The tournament is being held at the Lincoln Tennis Center.
Hiscox, who advanced through the prequalifier and the qualifier to make the main draw, lost to San Diego State's Oliver Maiberger Thursday (6-4, 6-2). Maiberger was ranked 13th in the country in the ITA's Preseason Singles rankings (dated Sept. 13).
Hiscox, the first BGSU player to ever play in the main draw, had defeated 62nd-ranked Marcio Petrone of North Carolina on Wednesday, his sixth win in six days at the tourney.
The ITA Men's All-American Championships are the first of college tennis' three national championship events (for singles and doubles) during the season for Division I men and women.
The BGSU men's tennis team will return to action Oct. 26, competing at the ITA Rolex Regional in East Lansing, Mich. The Falcons originally were scheduled to play in this weekend's (Oct. 13-14) Purdue Invitational, but will not attend that tournament due to the length of the team's stay in Georgia.
