Bowling Green State University sophomore quarterback Josh Harris was named National Player of the Week by ESPN.com. The Westerville North product was responsible for six touchdowns and 498 yards of total offense as the Falcons beat Northwestern, 43-42, and became the first team to defeat three opponents from BCS league teams during the regular season in MAC history. Harris tossed scoring passes of 20, 8 and 5 yards, scored on runs of 18 and 5 yards, and caught a touchdown pass from 14 yards. BG rallied from a 42-28 deficit in the final 3:44 of the game. His 498 yards of total offense is the second most in MAC history and with his 402 passing yards, he became just the second QB in school history to reach the 400-yard passing plateau. Harris is the first player in the NCAA to throw for, catch and rush for a touchdown in a game this season. He also was recognized as the MAC's East Division Offensive Player of the Week.
Junior linebacker Chris Haneline was named the MAC East Division Defensive Player of the Week. The graduate of St. Ignatius made four key plays that impacted the Falcons, 43-42 win at Northwestern. He forced a fumble at the one-yard line that prevented the Wildcats from gaining a 21-7 lead in the third quarter. Haneline also had three tackles for a loss, one of them a sack. He totaled a career-high 18 tackles and his first sack preceded an interception by teammate Chad Long.
The Falcons will host Toledo at 7 p.m., Friday evening.
