Bowling Green, Ohio - Big plays were in order as visiting Miami (7-2, 4-0 in the MAC East) held on to defeat Bowling Green (5-3, 3-2) 24-21 in front of the 15th largest crowd in Perry Stadium History (22,828). Trailing 21-7 in the fourth quarter, BGSU received a boost on special teams when Robert Redd returned a punt 61 yards for a touchdown to cut the lead to 21-14 with 7:45 left in the game. It marked the first time since 1996 (Courtney Davis vs. Kent State) that a Falcon returned a punt for a TD.
Following a defensive stand which gave BGSU the ball back with 3:44 remaining, defensive lineman Phil Smith picked off a pass and the RedHawks capitalized with a Jared Parseghian 28-yard field goal with 1:52 left to give MU a 10-point advantage.
However, the Falcons made it interesting when Andy Sahm found Kurt Gerling in the end zone from 35-yards out to make it 24-21 with 31 seconds left. An ensuing onside kick did not go the necessary 10 yards and Miami ran out the clock.
Miami scored first on a 46-yard pass from Ben Roethlisberger to Korey Kirkpatrick. The Falcons tied it up minutes later when Josh Harris scored on a four-yard run. Miami would then score 14 unanswered points when Roethlisberger hit Michael Larkin for an 81-yard TD in the second quarter and Steve Little scored on a 14-yard run in the third quarter.
