Dec. 1, 2001
The Falcons won their fourth straight game and captured their fifth triumph of the season. BGSU did not win its fifth game until January 3rd last year at Northern Illinois.
During the winning streak, BGSU has seen four different players lead the team in scoring. (Almanson-Delaware, Ryan-Defiance, McLeod-Michigan, Matela-Marist).
BGSU's tough non-conference schedule is paying dividends. The Falcons are rated 19th in the country in the latest NCAA I ratings percentage index (RPI). The tool is used as a guide in selecting teams for the NCAA Tournament. Ball State (3) and BGSU are the only teams from the MAC ranked in the top 65.
Len Matela tied his career-high with 17 rebounds (established one year ago against Duquesne). He also had a season-best 21 points.
Brandon Pardon was a team-best three-of-five from three-point range. The Falcons are 15-3 since last season when he makes two or more long distance bombs.
Keith McLeod had 16 points, four assists and six rebounds.
The Falcon defense established season bests for field goal percentage (.350), three-point percentage (.286), and points (58).
Marist is the second straight team to fall to BGSU after defeating the Falcons last season. BGSU also avenged a loss to Michigan on Wednesday.
CAREER UPDATE
Keith McLeod surpassed Jay Laranaga (1,249) to move into 18th place on the BGSU all-time scoring list with 1,254 points.
Len Matela is now 9th on the school's all-time rebounds list with 464 boards. He surpassed Dave Esterkamp (1,080) today to move into 26th place in career scoring with 1,088 points.
Brandon Pardon has improved his career three-point field goal percentage from 40.1 at the start of the season to 42.4. He is second on the BGSU career list in that category.
