Dec. 10, 2001
The Falcons are off to their best start in Dan Dakich's five years at BGSU with a 7-1 record. The last BGSU team to start 8-1 was the 1989-90 squad.
The Falcons came into the game rated 13th in the latest RPI.
BGSU is 6-0 in games decided by four points or less.
This marks the third win this season where BGSU has rallied from a deficit in the final two minutes (Michigan, Ole Miss, UNCW) and second win when down in the final 15 seconds of a game (Ole Miss, UNCW).
The Falcons have matched their longest winning streak under Dakich at six games (4th time, once last season and twice in 1999-2000).
The Falcons won their third straight over time game dating back to last season (at Miami, vs. Ole Miss, vs. UNCW.).
It was the first overtime home game in Dakich's tenure.
It was the Falcons first overtime game in Anderson Arena since January 18, 1994 when they defeated Eastern Michigan, 90-88.
The Falcons have won their last seven home overtime games and have not lost a home overtime game since December 12, 1985 when they fell to Defiance, 66-64.
BGSU has now defeated three teams at home who beat them last year on the road in non-conference play (Michigan, Marist, UNCW).
BGSU has defeated two teams which were in the post-season in 2001. (Ole Miss, Sweet 16, UNCW, NIT)
BGSU made 16 of 17 free throws in the second half and were three of four from three-point range in overtime.
With his game-winning three-point shot with 4.3 seconds left, Keith McLeod has either tied, given BGSU a lead or extended a lead to two possessions in the final minutes of each of the Falcons six wins against Division I foes. With his 16 points tonight, McLeod moved into 17th place on the BGSU all-time scoring list with 1,298 points.
With two three-pointers by Brandon Pardon, the Falcons improved to 19-4 during his career and 5-0 this season when he makes two or more long distance calls in a game. He has made eight of his last 14 three-point opportunities (57.1) in the last three games. Pardon also had a season-high 10 assists.
Freshman Erik Crawford had a career-best 14 points.
The BGSU bench (Ryan, 8, Netter 7, Mattox 2, Almanson, 2) outscored the Falcon starters 19-18 in the first half.
This was the second one-point loss on the road this season for UNCW. The Seahawks fell 79-78 at #19 Wake Forest. In their previous road contest (December 4), UNCW won at Minnesota, 58-50.
The Falcons will visit Evansville on Saturday, a team which they defeated 92-87 last season.
