FALCONS OFF TO BEST START UNDER DAN DAKICH
With their 84-72 win at Evansville, the Bowling Green State University men's basketball team is off to its best start in the five-year tenure of BGSU Coach Dan Dakich with an 8-1 record and have their longest winning streak (7) during that same time frame. This also equals BGSU's best start since 1989-90. The school record for the best start to a season was set by the 1943-44 squad which began the year 19-1.
REMEMBER THE TITANS
Saturday's game with Detroit will be the 29th meeting between the two schools since the 1952-53 season and first since November 24, 1998. In their last meeting, Detroit knocked off BGSU in Anderson Arena, 72-70, to up their series lead to 20-8. BGSU will be the fifth MAC team on Detroit's schedule. UDM hosted Western Michigan (12/1) and Toledo (12/15) and visited Eastern Michigan (12/3) and Central Michigan (12/19). Detroit is 4-0 against the MAC and returns four starters from a team which finished 25-12 and advanced to the semifinals of the NIT.
FALCONS ARE 19th IN THE RPI, 47TH IN COACHES POLL
The Falcons are the 19th highest rated team in the most recent NCAA I ratings percentage index (RPI). The Falcons are the highest rated team in the MAC in that category.
For the third time this season, BGSU received votes in the ESPN Coaches Poll.
FALCONS ARE RATED FIFTH IN MID-MAJOR POLL
BGSU is currently rated fifth in the collegeinsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll. The Falcons are slotted behind No. 1 Butler, No. 2 Gonzaga, No. 3 Ball State, and No. 4 Southern Illinois. Detroit is rated 11th.
TOUGH IN CLOSE GAMES
The Falcons are 27-13 under Coach Dakich in games decided by six points or less. The Falcons 6-0 record in close games this season mirrors that of the 2000 MAC Championship squad which posted a 9-1 record in games decided by six or less.
