Falcons Travel to Denver Bowling Green State University travels to Denver, Colo., this weekend for the Wells Fargo Cup, hosted by the University of Denver. Participating in the tournament are the #3-ranked Pioneers, #5 UMass-Lowell and Harvard. UM-Lowell plays Harvard in the first game on Friday (6:35 p.m. EST), while the Falcons tangle with host Denver in the second game (9:35 p.m. EST). The consolation game on Saturday begins at 6:05 p.m. EST with the championship game slated for 9:05 p.m. EST.
BGSU Versus #3 Denver (14-2-0) The Falcons trail the overall series 0-2-0 with back-to-back losses Nov. 28-29, 1969. The defeats were 9-3 and 7-0 in Denver, and marked the first-ever road trip for Bowling Green varsity hockey.
BGSU Versus Harvard (7-4-0) The Falcons trail the overall series 0-2-0 after being swept by the Crimson and White, March 20-21, 1987, in the NCAA Quarterfinals. The 7-1 and 3-0 defeats were in Cambridge, Mass.
BGSU Versus #5 UMass-Lowell (12-2-0) These two teams have met just once with UMass-Lowell winning 7-3 on Dec. 29, 1982. The loss was in the semifinals of the RPI Invitational.
Denver Wells Fargo Cup To Be Televised Fox Sports Rocky Mountain will be televising this weekend's Denver Wells Fargo Cup from the Magness Arena at the University of Denver. The two semifinal games on Friday, Dec. 28, and the consolation game on Saturday, Dec. 29, will be televised live on the Fox Sports Network. The championship game Saturday night will be tape delayed.
Bowling Green State University Head Coach Buddy Powers Buddy Powers (Boston University '75) is in his eighth season as head coach of the Falcons. Powers has an overall record of 251-206-39 (.545 pct.) in 13 years as head coach at Bowling Green (1994-SA), Rensselaer (1989-94) and Rochester Institute of Technology (1988-89). His record with the Brown and Orange stands at 131-135-24 (.493 pct.). Appointed the head coach at Bowling Green on July 12, 1994, Powers is the fourth head coach in the program's history. It is his 14th season overall on the Falcon bench after serving six years as assistant coach under Jerry York from 1982-88.
Falcons & Holiday Spirit Bowling Green will attempt to capture its first Holiday Tournament since winning the Bank One Badger Showdown at Wisconsin in 1998. BGSU won the consolation game at the RPI Tournament in 1999 and did not play in a tournament last year.
