No. 20 Michigan Tech Edges No. 21 Bowling Green, 3-2, to Take Quarterfinal Series

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Bowling Green Falcons (18-11-7) battled until the final seconds but fell to the No. 20 Michigan Tech Huskies (23-12-3), 3-2, on Saturday night inside the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena. With the win, Michigan Tech claims the best-of-three quarterfinal series and advances to the Mason Cup Playoff semifinals.
The Falcons held a significant edge in shots, outshooting Michigan Tech 79-44 over the final two games of the series. Huskies goaltender Blake Pietila stopped 74 combined shots to help secure the series win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Michigan Tech opened the scoring 8:22 into the game. BGSU failed to clear the puck and lost possession at center ice, allowing the Huskies to convert a transition three-on-one. Stiven Sardarian finished the play from the middle of the slot to give Michigan Tech a 1-0 lead.
• Midway through the second period, the Huskies extended the lead to 2-0. Michigan Tech moved the puck quickly across the ice before Lauri Raiman scored from the doorstep for his second goal of the season.
• BGSU broke through with 4:44 remaining in regulation. Quinn Emerson's shot was stopped, but the rebound bounced to Jackson Niedermayer, who buried it to cut the Michigan Tech lead to 2-1.
• With 59 seconds left, Michigan Tech added an empty-net goal after BGSU pulled its goaltender, extending the lead to 3-1.
• The Falcons answered after pulling the goalie again off the ensuing faceoff. With 26 seconds remaining, Dominik Rymon scored during a 6-on-5 opportunity. Ty Higgins recorded his second assist of the night on the play, while Ben Doran also picked up a helper.

• BGSU finishes with 18 or more wins for the 32nd time in program history.
• Jackson Niedermayer recorded at least one point in three straight games, five of the last six games, and seven of the last nine games.
• Ty Higgins had two assists for his third multi-point game of the season. He made his collegiate debut on Jan. 2.
• Dominik Rymon scored his 11th goal of the season and finished his rookie campaign with 11-11-22 totals. He recorded at least one point in four of BGSU's last five games.
• Ben Doran's assist gives him a point in three consecutive games.
