COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Bowling Green State University women's tennis team used victories at five singles flights and in all three doubles matches for a 6-1 win over Sam Houston State University. The neutral-site match was held in Colorado Springs, Colo.
With the win, the Falcons snap a seven-match slide in dual play, and BG is now 2-8 on the season.
Senior Abby Bratton posted a victory in two closely-played sets at the top flight, beating the Bearkats' Ivette Andrade. Both sets required a tiebreaker.
At the second flight, senior Meghan Rhodes lost just one game to her Bearkat foe, Stephanie Sutton, en route to the victory.
Freshman Lisa Maloney, playing at the third flight for the first time in dual play, won a three-set contest over SHSU's Diala Ammar.
Senior Tracy Howitt and freshman Gaby Coello won at flights five and six, respectively, losing a total of just four games combined. For Howitt, the match completed a perfect 3-0 weekend in singles play.
In doubles play, all three BGSU teams were winners. Bratton again emerged victorious from a tiebreaker, as she and fellow senior Erika Wasilewski competed at the top flight.
BG's other two teams, comprised of Rhodes and Howitt at the #2 flight and freshmen Jessica Johnson and Maloney at the third level, won by identical 8-2 scores.
The Falcons are now idle until a March 9 contest at Butler University. BGSU then opens Mid-American Conference play by hosting the University of Akron on March 23.
