Oestreng Wins Third MAC All-Around Title

Bowling Green State University junior Marny Oestreng continued her streak of MAC All-Around titles, tying Central Michigan's Sarah Dame for first place in the event at the MAC Gymnastics Championships held Saturday, March 24 at Kent State's M.A.C. Center. The pair each scored 39.150. Oestreng also tied for first place on the uneven parallel bars with Central Michigan's Tammy Verrinder with a score of 9.875. Oestreng has now won eight conference titles in her three-year career. For her efforts, Oestreng also earned first-team All-MAC honors. As a team, the Falcons finished fifth with a score of 194.400.
Kent State University set a new MAC Meet record with a 195.675 score to win the 2001 title. The championship marked Kent State's eighth title, tying Central Michigan for the most MAC Championships won by a team.
KSU retrieved the MAC title from second-place Central Michigan (194.900) who had owned the crown for the previous three seasons. Eastern Michigan finished third (194.750), followed by Ball State in fourth (194.600), BGSU, Western Michigan in sixth (193.450) and Northern Illinois in seventh (191.350).
