BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University women's tennis team lost a total of just 10 games all afternoon en route to a 7-0 win over the University at Buffalo. The Mid-American Conference dual match was held Saturday afternoon (March 24).
With the win, the Falcons improve to 5-8 overall and 2-0 in MAC play. BGSU has won the last four matches.
Senior Abby Bratton won at the top singles flight, defeating UB's Karen Maynard by a 6-2, 6-3 score. The five games that Maynard captured represented half of the Bulls' total on the day.
Senior Erika Wasilewski was one of three Falcons to win a singles match without losing a game, capturing a 6-0, 6-0 contest at the second flight. Freshmen Lisa Maloney and Jessica Johnson also won all 12 games in singles play, at the third and sixth flights, respectively.
Senior Tracy Howitt and freshman Gaby Coello won by identical 6-0, 6-1 scores at the fourth and fifth levels, respectively.
In doubles play, Bratton and Wasilewski teamed for an 8-1 win at the top flight. With the victories vs. the Bulls, Bratton moved past Cindy Mikolajewski (1994-97) on the BGSU all-time wins list. Bratton now has a total of 145 combined career wins, just eight behind career leader Deidee Bissinger (153 from 1997-2000).
Howitt and senior Meghan Rhodes were 8-0 winners at the second doubles flight. Howitt lost just one game on the entire weekend, as she posted a 6-0, 6-0 singles win and an 8-0 doubles victory in Friday's (March 23) BG win over Akron.
Rhodes' doubles win moved her combined career win total to 143, tying her with Mikolajewski for third place on the career list. Wasilewski now has 140 all-time wins to rank sixth.
Johnson and Maloney teamed for an 8-2 win over their third-flight UB foes.
The Falcons will continue a six-match homestand with a Thursday (March 29) contest vs. Ball State University. That MAC dual will begin at 1:00 p.m. at BGSU's Keefe Courts.
