CHANTILLY, Va. - D. C. United of Major League Soccer called up defender Fred Degand from minor league affiliate Hershey Wildcats (A-League) Thursday (June 14). Defender-midfielder Carey Talley (accumulation of caution points) and rookie midfielder Jose Alegria (red card v. the MetroStars Wednesday night) will serve a one game suspension against Kansas City. In addition, versatile midfielder Brian Kamler is out with a partially torn right hamstring.
Degand, 22, finished his Falcon career last November. He earned All-Mid-American Conference First-Team honors for the second consecutive season in 2000
Additionally, Degand was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Great Lakes Region First Team as well as the NSCAA All-Ohio Division I First Team last fall.
In 2000, Degand started all 15 matches he played and finished second on the squad with 12 points. He was second on the team with four goals and third with four assists.
BG finished the 2000 season with an overall mark of 9-8-1 and a MAC record of 4-2-0, which placed the Falcons in a four-way tie for first place. BG advanced to the championship match of the MAC Tournament.
Degand, a native of Highland Park, Ill., has made seven appearances for Hershey this season, going scoreless in 226 minutes of action.
